Daily Moments: Expect the Unexpected

Social media…I don’t know…I got an announcement on Facebook that a person too young to die did so unexpectedly. That is what the obituary said. However, we can all expect to die. It is inevitable. We anticipate our death at some point in life. Some die unexpectedly, we didn’t anticipate that death was likely to happen, but we know why: a car accident, a heart attack, cancer, murder. Then there are the unexpected deaths that are never clearly defined, so we assume suicide or a drug overdose. But we never get to know because there is shame in deciding we don’t want to live anymore or that drugs and/or alcohol deliver us from a painful life that deliver us to that “unexpected” peace that no one else understands. So, is there ever really an unexpected death when we all expect to die? Perhaps the only unexpected aspect is HOW we die. I expect to die, so I don’t believe that my passing is ever NOT likely to happen. It WILL happen. And so will everyone else’s.
